Engineered Garments Enlists Post-Imperial's Nigerian Prints for Capsule Collection
Made using the traditional Adire technique.
Engineered Garments has enlisted Nigeran-American menswear label Post-Imperial for a Summer capsule collection inspired by traditional dyeing processes and garments.
Each piece from the collection was treated to a unique process called Adire which is practiced by the Yorubas in the Southwest region of Nigeria. Before the garments are dyed, an artist will hand paint patterns using a cassava starch or wax base that allows for patterns to be made on the un-dyed sections of the fabric.
The capsule consists of colorful two-pieces, T-shirts and patchwork items. Standout pieces include the aforementioned patchwork looks, such as the stripe and polka dot-adorned navy blazer and short combination with green accents. Other notable mentions include the bold graphic T-shirts which see large wildflower prints, as well as the collections signature bucket hat.
Post-Imperial x Engineered Garments’ Summer 2019 collection can be bought from Nepenthes stores in New York and Tokyo, as well as the Post-Imperial Post-Imperial web store. Take a look at the entire collection in the gallery above, which was shot at the Malcolm Shabazz Market in Harlem.
